15 Jun 1981: Public meeting in UAFP. Decision taken to form “Omagh and District Historical Society”
24th Feb 1982:  Meeting of  the Omagh and District Historical Society  decided  that the society should henceforth be known as “The West Tyrone Historical Society”.
